A Few Questions and Issues
I Wanted to Respond To…

The teleseminar had a lot of information about many different aspects of Ayurveda…not always orderly or connected.

Agreed! It was our first teleseminar and we got a little off-topic. My main mission is to bring all the benefits of Ayurveda into your life. But I promise we’ll focus strictly on the beauty aspect with Monday’s teleseminar.

I had a time conflict and was unable to listen to the teleseminar

You can download a recording or read a transcript by clicking here….

I would prefer a book rather than teleconferences and other presentations…

Well, you most definitely can purchase a copy of the complete program. Otherwise, we’ll look at compiling an overview of this course and the free teleconferences into one PDF download.

Add picture examples of women with the different doshas

We created four videos to help you determine your dosha. You can view them by clicking here.

Too much selling and overselling of the course…

The vast majority of our subscribers have been very grateful for all the free and useful guidance and information we have provided over the last few weeks. I, of course, can’t do this all for free. Need to make a living. Would like to retire. Anyway, we find if people don’t pay for the Program, they don’t end up putting it to use. We are keeping it very reasonably priced.

Make it less commercial (looking), not so many bold letters and reminder emails… Seems like you are just taking over exactly the same cheap selling strategies of the commercial products you are attacking…

Well, bolding text helps people focus on what’s most important to them.

“Cheap selling techniques?” I didn’t see any naked women or promises of a great sex life. In fact, we’ve provided you with a 60-minute teleconference, (my hourly consulting rate is $300), free samples of our program, and plenty of life-changing information. Hardly “cheap.”

Anyway, we are not attacking “commercialism.” We have no problem with people selling beauty products or anything else (as long as it’s using honest claims). We just don’t think they should be selling beauty products with harmful or ineffective ingredients.

Make it so there is one webpage with previous lessons (maybe there is and I missed it)…

You can click here to see all the lessons at once.

Recommend local practitioners…

There are so few qualified Ayurvedic practitioners in North America or Europe. Down the road maybe we can put time into creating such a directory. Right now, I’m focusing on spreading the self-empowering side of Ayurveda. For example, the ancient texts say that simply doing oil massage will help prevent over 90% of all diseases.

Give a little more information about massage…

You can read a detailed description in free eguide, Effortless Ayurvedic Living or (for the most information) purchase a copy of the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program.

Offer more tests/surveys available to help people discover their dosha…

We have a test you can take on our clinic’s website. Click here to take it now. Lissa Coffey also has a test you can take.

Brilliant so far, love it, although sometimes for us novices certain terminologies e.g. “oil massage and dry brushing” could be a little more explanatory as to what it means and how to do it, although I’m sure that the finer details will be clearer in the program

That’s right.  For the most detailed and thorough, yet simple and step-by-step explanations you can download a copy of the complete Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program.

Thanks for all your support in this first online endeavor of ours. We can’t wait to hear how this program benefits you over the next week, months and years.

Natural Beauty Survey Results

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 27, 2008

Survey Results!

I wanted to share with you the results we received from the survey we sent you the other day.

Now, keep in mind, everybody who sent in comments didn’t fill in all of the boxes. That’s why you’ll notice the percentages will vary from table to table.

I’ll share with the you the stats first and then respond to particular comments…

Top Beauty Problems Reported…

Dryness 24%
Aging 20%
Acne, pimples 18%
Wrinkles/lines 18%
Red skin 9%
Sensitive skin (irritated) 8%
Oily skin 5%
Bags (dark circles) under eyes 4%
Clogged pores 3%
Discolored skin 3%
Rashes 2%
Bad nails 1%
Cellulite 1%
Dull appearance 1%
Scars 1%

Dryness: As you can see dryness was the number one reported issue. This makes sense, since dryness is a result of too much vata or pitta. Vata- and Pitta-Beauties the most prone to skin trouble.

Premature Aging: Aging, of course, was another big issue. We can’t stop you from aging, but the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program can definitely slow down and minimize the effects. Wrinkles and lines are largely caused by lack of oil in the body, being that we tend to dry out as we age. The last third of our life is the “vata years” so oil massage is doubly important.

Red, Sensitive Skin: Red and sensitive skin is more of a pitta issue. Too much heat in the body. You need to use cooling oils like coconut, and the special essential oils and formulas we’ll be revealing (tomorrow) in the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program.

Skin Rashes: A few people are dealing with rashes. I first want to make sure you used the tell-a-friend form to get a copy of my free report, Overcome Common Complexion Problems Ayurvedically. This information, however, is repeated in the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program. That said, this is really a program for improving the appearance of your skin, hair, nails and face, not about how to overcome ailments.

One women wrote, “I want to stop skin rashes, especially when I use make-up.” Well, in that case, then, we may be able to help! You see, the more naturally beautiful you look, the less make-up you’ll need. Secondly, by nourishing your skin with ingredients that don’t devitalize your skin cells, you may find many of your rashes and other skin-related health problems vanishing.

Suggestions for Improving This Course

As you can see we didn’t get too much suggestions (most people just sent thanks) but we did get some (much appreciated)…

More dosha guidance 12%
Terms confuse me 4%
Better interface 4%
More images 3%
Too many emails 3%
Too much info 3%
Respond to questions 3%
More specific direction 3%
More recipes 2%
More videos 2%
Unfocused teleseminar 2%
Too much selling 2%

Decoding Your Dosha: When we started this project we realized helping people decode their dosha (Beauty-Type) would be difficult. Sometimes, though, people are simply too concerned they’ll make the “wrong” choice. Please remember that when you download a copy of the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program you’ll have access to all six versions. This way you don’t need to worry about ordering the wrong one. Try what you think works best, and if it’s doesn’t work, try a different version.

That said, we’ll continue to make efforts to improve upon the different ways in which we can help our subscribers determine their current Ayurvedic state.

By the way, you can also download a free copy of my Effortless Ayurvedic Living Guide, for a thorough dosha test.

Is This a Scam? ONE reader wrote to say, “It seems like a scam so make it more accessible.” I’m not to sure what you mean by more “accessible.” Sounds like you want us to make the program available for free, so you don’t have to pay. I think we have already given away a generous amount of free information, including three of our best formulas.

The program is only $47. If we were interested in scamming people, we’d make it $4,447.99.

I’m a fully licensed chiropractor doctor in the state of California, with a clinic on 2200 County Center Dr., Suite B., Santa Rosa, California. You’re welcome to call our office to confirm my identity at (707) 527-7313. You can also view my license status on the website for the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

Also, if you decide to purchase the program, you’ll be doing so through our merchant provider, a company called Clickbank. Founded in 1998, ClickBank is the internet’s premier retailer for digitally delivered products. Each day, ClickBank completes nearly 20,000 orders from more than 200 countries around the world. They guarantee you a 60-day, no questions asked, money-back policy. We likewise, do the same, but if you are concerned we might refuse, then you can simply request one directly from Clickbank.

There is no risk of you being scammed.

Why People Say They Need
Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty

This section of the survey received the most varied responses, which was great to see. It seems the top two reasons people want to start the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program are to live a a more natural life, free of toxic chemicals…

Prefer all-natural beauty care 24%
Avoid chemicals 23%
Better health (avoid disease) 18%
Improve mood/self-confidence 17%
Love learning about Ayurveda 13%
Greater beauty 11%
Prevent affects of aging 10%
Radiant skin 8%
Appreciate the dosha approach 7%
Saving money 5%
Making homemade formulas 3%
Spiritual benefits 2%
Youthful appearance 1%
Expert advice 1%
Just makes sense 1%
Tried everything else 1%
Effortless Beauty 1%
Expense 1%
Environment 1%

More Self-Confidence: One lady wrote, “I would be more confident and happy going to work or attending parties.” In fact, 17% of people who filled out the survey want to start living the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program in order to build their self-image. It’s no secret that the better your feel about your appearance the more confidence you have and the more attractive you will be. Unlike, when you hide behind the mask of too much make-up, this approach lets you be who you truly are.

That said, I want to be clear about one thing…

This Isn’t An Internal Cleansing Program: Some said, “I think that if I balanced myself from the inside out, it could have a profound effect on my life to come.” It is so true that balancing your body and mind, improving your health through an Ayurvedic lifestyle, will naturally produce healthier skin, hair and nails. But I want to make clear that the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program focuses on beauty-care from the outside in — mainly by applying homemade formulas to your skin, hair and nails.

Of course, these ingredients will penetrate into your bloodstream and nervous system, bringing balance to your doshas, resulting in even more outward beauty. If you’re interested in learning more internal and lifestyle practices to balance your entire health, you can download a copy of my free Effortless Ayurvedic Living Guide.

This is Not a Weight Loss Program: Someone wrote saying that they want to “to lose weight and stay fit.” That’s a great goal and part of being beautiful. But that’s not something that Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program will help you with directly. Of course, by using these formulas, and balancing your doshas, you’ll start to feel more whole, motivated and confident. This should help you work towards eating properly and losing weight. Learning to seek comfort in massage, therapeutic baths and aromatheraphy (as explained in the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program) will keep you away from the mashed potatoes.

Save Money! “I would like to save my money on commercial products…” Many readers pointed out how much money they’ll save not buying so much store-bought beauty care products. Making your own homemade versions is not only fun, but it costs a lot less (even though the ingredients are better quality). Part of the reason it’s nice on your wallet is because it produces better results — you don’t need to use as much to get results.

In this way, the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program is virtually free. You’ll make up the small purchase fee very quickly. As one reader said…
“I’m tired of spending a great deal of money only to react to the chemicals in the formulation.”

Help the Environment: As many people pointed out, using this routine, with these ingredients, means less chemicals will end up back in the environment (after they get flushed out of your body).

Less Worry! Many of you reported that that you’re putting healthy food in your mouth but feeding your skin these unhealthy ingredients via your beauty-products. It’s become a constant worry in the back of your mind and you feel helpless. We’ve been brainwashed to think the only way we can beautify our body is from a bottle. You’ll find making your own formula from scratch a very empowering process. As Praill said…

“Financially I am sure it would save money in the long run. I would be more in control as to what substances I put on my skin. No sinister ingredients being absorbed into my body.”

More Comments and My Responses Tomorrow…

We still have a lot questions, comments and feedback from the survey I’d like to respond to. I’ve run out of time now but will follow in a day or two.

Namste, Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. Ayurvedic Practictioner

The Art and Science of Ayurvedic Beauty Care

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 26, 2008

Four Women Four Different Beauty-Types

I never wanted to get into teaching people how to beautify their skin, hair and complexion. I’m a doctor working in a busy clinic. I deal with cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases. Helping women add luster to their hair was never on the top of my list…

At least, until I began to understand the connection between health and personal beauty.

I finally surrendered and traveled to India in 1993 (one of many trips) in search of more knowledge about Ayurvedic Beauty. I spent time in three spartan beauty "salons" in Northern India.

The practitioners actually held university degrees in Ayurvedic medicine. Particularly, in the modern Indian cities, they operated as if they were North American aestheticians. I was shocked to see my Indian colleagues giving facials, treating skin and washing hair.

Can the road to health really be that simple? That’s going to be the theme of the next teleseminar I’ll be co-hosting with Lissa Coffey (author of best-selling, What’s Your Dosha Baby?).

Free Teleseminar:
The Art and Science of Ayurvedic Beauty Care

On Monday evening’s teleseminar, we look forward to…

* Sharing stories of my "Indiana Jones" adventures uncovering Ayurvedic beauty secrets and bringing home Sanskrit texts for translation…
* Giving you more tips about the basic beauty formulas we shared with you the other day…
* Guiding you on how to care for your particular Beauty-Type (dosha)…
* Answering questions about the complete Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program
* Announcing the three winners of the Comment Contest
* Cutting the digital ribbon and releasing the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty program at 6pm (PST)/9pm (EST)…

Plus, For Those Still Unsure About Their Beauty-Type

Show up a half-hour early — that’s 5:30pm (PST)or 7:30pm (EST)— and I’ll be there to help you, one-on-one, decipher your Ayurvedic Beauty-Type. First come, first served. I expect a lot of people (so show up early). But even if there isn’t time to give you personal one-on-one attention, simply listening to me do dosha consults for 30 minutes will help you figure out what yours is.

We’ll be repeating these details and sending you the call-in information Monday morning. So make sure you have signed up and are already receiving our emails.

It’s been over 15 years since I made that first trip to India seeking out Ayurvedic Beauty Secrets. It feels great to know that on Monday, after a decade and a half of work, this knowledge will finally be made available to the world.

So mark your calendars for the day after tomorrow, Monday, April 28th, at 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST) or 8pm (EST) for this free teleseminar experience. Or show up a half-hour early to get help determining your Beauty-Type.

Namste, Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. Ayurvedic Practictioner

P.S. We do apologize for not being as interactive with the last teleseminar as we intended. It was all-new technology for us. We now have it tamed and are looking forward to having more of an interactive experience with you on Monday. If you have any questions about the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program, which we’ll be releasing, you can leave them below and I’ll do my best to answer them Monday evening.

Ayurvedic Beauty-Type (Dosha) Case Studies

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 22, 2008

Four Women Four Different Beauty-Types

A few were finding it challenging to determine their Beauty-Type (dosha). Some people asked if I could put up pictures of different Beauty-Types.

I decided to do even more…

I’ve recorded four videos with some of my patients where I determine their Beauty-type on screen. This way you won’t just see them… you’ll hear their voice and get a taste of their personality which are strong indiactors of body-types.

I hope this helps. It can seem a little confusing at first, but trust me, knowing your Ayurvedic Beauty-Type is of extreme personal value to you. It’s a shortcut to knowing what will help you and what won’t.

Please, don’t worry, though. When you order a copy of the complete Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty program, you’ll be brought to a download page where you’ll have access to all six versions of the program. Start by trying the one you think suits you at this time in your life. If you’re wrong, you can easily download another version.

What’s more, make sure you’ve listened to the teleseminar I did with Lissa Coffey. There I talk about how a vata disorder may currently be affecting your natural stateof beauty (even if you are predominately pitta or kapha).

Okay, here are the videos. Just go ahead and click on the triangle play buttons below each frame….

When you’re done, please be sure to leave a comment below. Let me know if this helped you identify your beauty-type or if you still have questions…

P.S. I have more stuff coming to you over the rest of this week. So make sure you are signed up.

P.P.S. Why am I giving you free copies of these beauty formulas, which took me over ten years and many trips to India to compile? Why will I continue to send you more free stuff over the next week? Here’s my three-fold “evil” plan: 1) A number of you will be so impressed by my free material that you’ll buy a copy of the complete program when it’s released next Monday. 2) You’ll be so kind as to use the Share This button below to bookmark this page on the different social networking websites. 3) You’l use the same button to tell friends and family about my site, so they can come and get the same free gifts.

P.P.P.S. Let me know what you think of the free samples. Try the formulas as soon as you can (you may already have the ingredients) and let me know how they feel. Just leave a comment below. Of course, you can’t expect major results overnight. It takes about 21 days to regrow your skin cells. So, please, keep it up that long. Let me know how it goes…

P.P.P.P.S. Three beauty-typing videos coming the day after tomorrow (if all goes well)…

Teleseminar Recording and Transcript

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 18, 2008

Get a Free Recording of Thursday's Teleseminar

The biggest obstacle people hit when embracing Ayurveda is determining their dosha, or, as we are referring to it here, your Beauty-Type. Many of you reading this course have had trouble figuring out whether you are a Vata, Pitta or Kapha.

In all likelihood you’ve determined which Beauty-Type you are NOT. For instance if you have never been thin in your life, don’t like to talk and have moist skin — you don’t have much Vata in you.

In a few days, I’ll have three videos ready for you that should help you identify your Beauty-Type. I’ve interviewed a Vata, Pitta and Kapha-Beauty from my clinic. I’ll show you exactly what leads me to concluding their Beauty-Type. Seeing some live examples, will help you determine your own Beauty-Type.

But I won’t stop there.

On April 17th, 2008 I held a teleseminar with best-selling author of What’s Your Dosha Baby? Lissa Coffey will be joining me. Lissa has appeared on numerous radio and TV talk shows (including Fox 11 News), as well magazines such as Woman’s Day. Many of you know her from her email newsletters including Coffey Talk News, Wisdom News and Dosha News.

Here’s What We Revealed on
The Discover Your Ayurvedic Beauty-Type Teleseminar

You can download a recording below. This is an important teleseminar. Once you know your Beauty-Type you’ll be able to take care of your beauty needs, relatively effortlessly. Beauty care was never meant to be complicated. If you know the unique needs of your skin, complexion and hair, then it should be far easier for you to enjoy the radiance you seek.

So make sure you won’t have any disturbances. Get someone to take care of your kids. Delay dinner if you have to. Turn off call waiting. Shut off your cell phone. Turn off your computer (unless you are using it to take notes) or at least close down your email program.

We know your time is valuable, so we’ll make sure you come away from the recording with a new outlook on personal beauty and how to go after your unique beauty potential.

Okay, to download the teleseminar recording simply click the “Download Audio MP3″ button below. You can then load it onto your iPod, burn it to a CD or listen to it on your computer.

P.S. Make sure to drop by Lissa Coffey’s website, if you haven’t already, and sign up for her newsletters. They’re short and full of wisdom with a modern twist. She’s doing a lot of good work to help bring Ayurveda into the mainstream.

The Truth About Commercial Moisturizers

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 16, 2008

What in the World Are You Feeding Your Skin?

After the last instalment you should have a pretty good idea which Beauty-Type or Types you are. If you’re not 100% certain, don’t worry! I’ll be showing you some video case studies in a few days that will teach you by example. When you see me identify others’ Beauty-Types, it’ll be easier to identify your own.

Plus, I’ll be sending you a recording of first Discover Your Ayurvedic Beauty teleconference. It’s 100% free.

Today, however, I wanted to emphasize for you the fact that YOUR SKIN EATS.

It’s the ultimate food court.

What you put on your skin ends up in your bloodstream and positively or negatively affects your nervous system.

I bet you limit the amount of processed food you consume, right? You’re not snacking at MacDonald’s everyday or eating out of a frozen food wrapper. You don’t want to be consuming preservatives, MSG and other nasties.

That’s great, but… in a lot of ways what you put into your mouth is going to affect you LESS than what you put on your skin. When you put food in your mouth, it must make it past your gut’s gatekeepers. The passage from the skin to your bloodstream isn’t as protected.

That’s why most (if not all) commercial beauty-care products come with problems. In order for those bottles to survive sitting in a warehouse, then in a truck, then on the shelf, and then in your bathroom, they simply can’t be made with fresh ingredients. They require preservatives of one fashion or another.

Let me explain…

The Problem With Commercial Cleansers

Most commercial soaps and cleansers are too harsh and drying. They tip your acid mantle’s balance from acid to alkaline. This is harmful to all skin types, but especially if you have vata or pitta skin which is already prone to dryness.

To counteract this, some manufactures are adding 1,4-Dioxane, a carcogenic by-product of the gasoline industry (see my article “Organic” Beauty Products Found to Contain a Petro By-Product).

Now, I’m not trying to make you scared to death to wash your face. If you exercise each day, do some meditation, eat plenty of fresh foods, get out in the fresh air… you probably don’t need to worry about this one little chemical giving you cancer. But, quite simply, why take the risk?

In a few days I’ll send you a PDF with some of the simple recipes from the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program that you can start using right away. They cost less to make then what you’d buy at the health food store. They smell great. Feel even better. And produce results beyond what you get from processed beauty-products.

It’s the equivalent to a home-cooked meal over take-out for your skin.

Why do they produce great results? Because they are FEEDING your skin with the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and vibrant.

You’ll actually enjoy the process of applying these treatments. If you miss a day, you’ll feel like you missed a meal. Hundreds of patients have told me so.

The only drawback is that once you add liquid to these formulas their “shelf life” is about 24 hours. 48 in the fridge. But, like I said, it’ll take less time to prepare than microwaved popcorn.

The Problem With Commercial Exfoliants and Peels

Healthy growing skin requires that dead cells be removed (AKA exfoliated) daily. The Ayurvedic herbal powders and creamy cleansers provided in the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program gently exfoliate as they cleanse, without stripping away natural moisture. They are preferable to commercial scrubbers, which contain synthetic chemicals and abrasive particles that can be too harsh for most skins, especially if used regularly.

Ayurveda also recommends against the frequent use of commercial chemical “peels” such as retin-A, alphahydroxy acid or glycolic acid.

Although they are effective exfoliants, these products are too harsh and usually contain a synthetic form of these chemicals. They are particularly drying if you are a Vata- or Pitta Beauty when used daily.

A better alternative is pure apple, lemon or papaya juice mixed with water, but even those may prove too strong for delicate skin.

I’ll be sharing with you one of my simple recipes from the Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty Program in a free download in a few days.

The Problem With Commercial Moisturizers

Most commercial moisturizers contain substances that simply do not penetrate the skin down to the deeper layers (where you most need lubrication and nourishment).

Typically, moisturizers are simply oil and water bound together with chemicals called emulsifiers, which keep them from separating. They are essentially a layer of grease that just sits on top of your skin, clogging pores and attracting dirt. If the ingredients do penetrate, you get the synthetic along with the moisturizing and nourishing effects.

Be aware that according to most skin experts, collagen complex in a jar has no positive affect on the skin.

Also be aware that commercial moisturizers often contain glycerine or alcohol.

These can backfire because glycerine pulls the skin’s natural moisture to the surface. Although this plumps up the outer layer, in the long run it can cause dry skin if your deeper layers don’t have plenty of moisture.

And alcohol is a drying agent, pure and simple.

Check labels carefully if you buy commercial moisturizers.

Determining Your Ayurvedic Beauty-Type

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 14, 2008

The Secret Identity of Your Skin, Hair and Nails

Last time we spoke we focused on obvious indicators of your BODY-type. Normally, your body-type and Beauty-Type will fall in synch. So, if you haven’t already, check out yesterday’s post before continuing.

Now, you may have found that you were predominately a Pitta- and Kapha-Type, for example. Today, however, you may find, as far as your skin, hair and nails are concerned, you are just a Pitta.

Or, maybe, yesterday you determined your body-type was predominately Vata. But today you find that your skin and hair are predominately Pitta.

That’s fine. It may just mean that, you’re a Kapha-Type with Pitta Skin.

As far as helping you beautify your hair, face, hands, feet, nails and skin… we’re more concerned with the results you get today. If they are in conflict with the results from yesterday, then you may be a mixed dosha. If you’re not sure what to think, just leave a question in the comment box at the end of this post.

Are You A Seasonal Beauty?

If sometimes you manifest one Beauty-Type and another time you manifest a different Beauty-Type it may be because of the seasons. You may find in the winter you tend towards being a Vata-Beauty (e.g. dry and cold skin) and in the summer towards being a Pitta-Beauty (e.g hot and irritated skin).

If you find that your hair looks great in the summer, looks “okay” in the fall and becomes unmanageable in the winter you’ll probably find the Ayurvedic approach to hair care very helpful.

The problem isn’t with your hair, it’s the way you are treating it (and the rest of your body — which affects you hair). You probably use the same moisturizer and shampoo year round (as well as eat the same foods). This doesn’t make sense unless you fly south for the winter and north for the summer.

Generally, people have lost touch with nature. They work inside, spend their free time inside… they don’t truly experience the changes in the season. Yet, no matter how protected you are from a cold, snowy, winter day, you’re still going to experience its drying vata effect.

So, you may find that you need to treat yourself like a Vata-Beauty in February and a Pitta-Beauty in July.

Examples and Case Studies

Now, I hope this hasn’t confused you. Don’t try to understand it all today. We’ll take it slowly, over the next two weeks. I have some videos coming to you soon of me working one-on-one with patients at my clinic, identifying their beauty-types. We’ll also be doing a free, live teleseminar, where I’ll be able to help anybody (with a reasonable time limit) who is having trouble figuring out their beauty type.

Okay, that said, identify which of the following applies to you…

You’re a Vata-Beauty If…

…you have dry or flakey patches on your skin

…you experience a grey discolouration of the skin

…your skin is normally cold to the touch

…you have a dark complexion (relative to your race)

…you have brown or black hair

…your hair is coarse, thin, dry and brittle

…your nails are dry, rough, brittle and break easily

You’re a Pitta-Beauty If…

…you get red in the face easily

…your skin “glows”

…you always feel warm to the touch

…you have plenty of freckles

…your hair is fine and straight

…you have red or blonde hair

…your nails are flexible, pink and lustrous

You’re a Kapha-Beauty If…

…you naturally have beautiful, soft skin

…you tend to get blemishes and oil deposits when you put on extra weight

…your hair is oily, thick and luxuriant

…you have dark wavy or curly hair

…your nails are thick, smooth, shiny and hard

As you can see, when you are predominate in Vata, Pitta or Kapha, it means you are usually imbalanced in the same. So the usual way to identify your Beauty-Type is by negative characteristics.

But knowing whether your vata, pitta or kapha is out of control is the first step to reversing the negative effects it has on you skin, hair and nails (as well as the rest of your body).

The solution is quite simple: If you have vata predominate (dry) skin, you need to apply ingredients to your skin Kaphic (oily) in nature. E.g. If you skin is extremely dry and cold, you need a warm and lubricating oil like sesame (you can add essential oils to get rid of the stir-fry smell). And you don’t need to be DRY brushing every day.

Here’s My Dry Brushing Recommendations

Vata-Beauties: Twice a week with an sesame oil massage 7 times a week

Pitta-Beauties: Three times a week with a coconut oil massage 7 times a week

Kapha-Beauties: DAILY dry massage (you probably need little or no oil massages).

If you’re kapha and feel left out about the oil massage, don’t worry… you’ll find dry massaging invigorating. It will also get rid of blemishes in your skin. A dry brush is fine, but even better would be to rub your skin with a silk glove (you can make a simple mitt at home by folding and sewing a piece of raw silk).

So there’s a practical take away for you. If you found that you were predominately a Vata- and/or Pitta-Beauty, dry brushing more then three times a week is not a great idea. You need to be spending that time giving yourself oil massages — lubricating your skin.

If, however, you turned out to be Kapha, with excessively oily skin, dry brushing would be a good idea. Even better would be to use chickpea flour to fully exfoliate your skin, without contributing to its oiliness.

I’ll be sharing with you some of my simple cleanser recipes, from my Efforltess Ayurvedic Beauty program. You’ll see how to use chickpea and spices to clean the pores in your skin.. You’ll be amazed at how it feels.

But I hope, for today, you’ve been able to decipher your Beauty-Type a little better. If you have any questions, please leave them below. I’ll do my best to respond to them all (so check back here soon).

If you figured out your beauty-type, let us know what it is by leaving a comment below. What characteristics made you so certain of your your Beauty-Type? Remember, you may not just be a Vata-, Pitta- or Kapha-Beauty, but also a Vata-Pitta-, Pitta-Kapha- or Kapha-Vata-Beauty.

Or you could be the reverse of one of those combos. In Ayurveda we put the predominate type first in a combo. So if your MOSTLY Vata, but still have a lot of Pitta, then you’re a Vata-Pitta. If you live in place like Southern Canada, England or Northern USA, you may find you alternate between being a Vata-Pitta in the winter and Pitta-Vata in the summer.

P.P.S. Let me know also, if the simple wisdom regarding dry brushing makes sense. Many times people are advised to arbitrarily do dry-brushing. For a while there it was the big health fad. It is a good practice, but you need to moderate it to your Beauty-Type. Let me know your thoughts. We welcome feedback.

Easy Ways to Indentify Your Ayurvedic Beauty-Type

By Dr. Helen Thomas, D.C. | April 13, 2008

The wonderful thing about Ayurveda is that it doesn’t assume that everybody needs the same thing. Usually, this applies to health needs, but it’s equally important for beauty needs.

In the West, we don’t tend to think of health and beauty as the same thing. No wonder, when you look at how commercialized and competitive the word “beauty” has become in our society.

Yet, when it comes down to it, beauty and health go together. Sick people don’t usually look that beautiful. And beautiful people tend to be healthier. One is a reflection of the other. A flower that is fed the wrong type of fertilizer, not given enough water, and exposed to little light will wither (lose beauty) and perish (lose health).

Also, the more beautiful and attractive you FEEL, the better you feel about yourself in general. Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s the inside that counts. And, that’s very true. Sometimes, however, that’s just an excuse to be lazy about keeping up our physical appearances.

Listen carefully… It’s far easier to apply natural means of self-beautification to bring out your unique beauty potentials. Trying to ignore your beauty needs goes against thousand of years of DNA programming. Beauty is so closely intertwined with attracting a mate and continuing the species.

That said, you need to understand that what makes one person beautiful, may not make you beautiful.

If you have straight hair and long for curls…Well, get over it.

Instead, fall in love with straight hair. If you got it into your head that men find curly hair more attractive… well, that’s simply not true. Millions of men prefer straight hair.

And some couldn’t care less either way.

That said… if you have rough, frizzy hair, that looks lifeless - whether it’s straight, wavy or curly - that’s not natural. That’s something you don’t have to put up with. Effortless Ayurvedic Beauty is about taking what you got and making the most of it. Instead of thinking you have to trade in your body, you just need to nurture it. Make it come alive.

Let the Petals Unfold
See What Kind of Flower You Are

Let’s start a journey where we’ll figure out what makes you beautiful and what’s stopping you from experiencing that beauty. In order to do that we need to determine your Ayurvedic Beauty-Type.

I wish this could be done in a simple quiz where you add up your score - and sometimes it can - but it often requires more intuition and less mathematics. You need to know which of the three “beauty-types” (doshas in Sanskrit) you fall into. You may be a mixture of two. Once we indentify your Beauty-Type we’ll explore the unique beauty possibilities you have, as far as your complexion, skin and hair.

Okay, today we’ll just focus on the big indicators of your beauty-type… or more so your body-type. Tomorrow we’ll focus more on specific indicators of your beauty-type as it relates to your skin, hair and face.

Ready?

You Know You’re a VATA-Dominate When You…

…can eat anything and never gain weight

…experience anxiety when you have too much to do

…get constipated easily

…have a slight build and get cold easily

Vatas are represented by the air and wind. You tend towards dryness, which is why constipation comes easy and you carry no water weight. You also have trouble focusing on a task for very long and get distracted easily. If this sounds like you, then you are very likely a vata-dominate person.

You Know You’re a PITTA-Dominate When You…

…need a lighter jacket then everybody else

…overheat easily (hot flashes) and get red in the face

…have a medium build

…get hungry easily only hours after finishing a meal

Pittas have a strong fire element inside them. This lends a tendency to too much heat which can dry up your body, over-digest your food and sparks heated tempers. If that’s you, then you’re a pitta-dominate person.

You Know You’re a KAPHA Beauty When You…

…have a tendency to be overweight (merely looking at food makes you fat!)

…have big, calm, blue eyes, with a loving gaze

…have a constant appetite, but can skip meals

…are slow and graceful, with a tendency to procrastinate and sleep in

Earth and water are your elements, which give you that grounded and slow-to-action persona. If this sounds like you then you’re probably a kapha personality.

Or Maybe You’re a Combination of
Two Ayurvedic-Types…

You may find that two of the above categories fits your description. Maybe you vary during the winter (a naturally vata time) and the summer (pitta time).

You don’t have to decide today which you are. You’ve probably, however, been able to rule out one of the above body-types. E.g. if your super-skinny and wake up ready to conquer the world at 4:37am every single day, you know you’re not a Kapha.

Tomorrow we’ll look at your skin, hair and face, specifically, to really determine your Beauty-Type. What we were looking at today was your overall BODY-Type.

If you’ve happened upon this page, without signing up, you can head over here to get all the downloads that come with this free course.

P.S. Later on I’ll share with you some Ayurvedic Beauty-Typing Interviews with patients at my clinic here in Santa Rosa, Califonria. I got vata-, pitta- and kapha- beauties who are great examples of each of the types. Seeing how I identify their beauty-type and hearing how they’ve benefited from this knowledge, should make it easier for you to determine your Beauty-Type.

P.P.S. Any question or comments? Please leave them below. I want to help as many people as possible benefit from Ayurveda’s self-beautification wisdom.
