According to Ayurveda, Vata Beauty-Types benefit the most from sesame oil. Pittas from coconut oil. And Kaphas sometimes don't even need oil, but benefit from rubbing their skin with silk.

That's where the brilliance of Ayurveda can help you with your beauty goals. When you know which base oils, which herbs, which ingredients will have the most balancing effect on your face and skin (not just anyone's skin) it can change your life. The same goes for your hair.

Funny enough, some of the simplest ingredients, when selected properly and matched to your specific natural state, will have far, far greater effects than overpriced commercial items.

Now, it's not only critical to use oils and herbal mixtures that help balance any negative conditions in your skin or hair, but also to avoid using those that will aggravate it.

The Road to Healthy, Radiant Skin Begins With...

...proper cleansing. Every day (it only takes a few minutes), you need to keep pores unclogged and remove makeup, dirt, pollutants, bacteria, sweat, and waste products that are eliminated through the skin. The catch is you need to accomplish this without also removing your skin's natural oils and moisture (acid mantle).

Depending on how enthusiastic you are about skin care, I've included two types of cleansers in the program. A simple one and an advanced one.

The Simple Cleanser Formulas Involve
Only Two Ingredients

* A flour (yes, a powdery flour — but NOT bread flour): This 3,500 year old dried vegetable has just the right amount of abrasiveness for gentle daily exfoliations. It'll clear away dirt, waste and dead skin build up, without damaging your delicate skin.
* A Spice Used in Indian Cuisine (remember, if you wouldn't eat it, you shouldn't apply it to your skin): This spice is naturally antibacterial and will unclog pores easily. The same spice is secretly added to food products to stop them from discolouring due to exposure to sunlight.

Simple Directions: Combine ingredients and store in a small container such as a spice jar with a shaker top. To use, add one teaspoon (or less) of the mixture into the palm of your hand or a small dish. Add enough water or milk to form a thin paste. With fingertips massage all over your face and throat for one minute. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water.

That's it!

This will leave your skin with a silky smooth, softness. Not dry and irritated. It'll also impart a subtle glow.

After You Cleanse, You Need to Feed Your Skin
With a Healthy Moisturizer

As with the above facial cleanser, I have a simple and advanced version of the moisturizer.

The simple version uses the special oil I mentioned above (for your specific Ayurvedic Beauty-Type) as its base. Here's another example from the Vata program...

The Simple Moisturizer Formulas
Involve Only Three Ingredients

* 4 Drops of Essential Oil From the "Lemon Plant":  So named because of its rich lemon smell (it's NOT lemon oil, though). It has a cleansing and balancing effect on the production of sebum, which partly explains its moistening effect on dry skin.
* 4 Drops of Oil From the Blossoms of the "Bitter Orange" Tree: Highly calming to the nervous system...
* 2 Drops of Oil From a Nipple Fruit you may not have realized contained any oil at all.

Direction: Combine oils and store in an opaque, airtight container with an eyedropper cap. To use, dampen face with bottled water and apply three to four drops of moisturizer to your skin. Massage gently until all the oil and the water is absorbed.

If You Love Long Hot Showers and Baths

Sadly, you need to be careful. If your vata skin becomes too water-logged during bathing it will actually lose moisture and become dry. Pittas become over-heated. Kaphas become sedentary.
